👆🗳️  Remarkable poll on search engine preference has closed. A plurality of the Fedi does not use Google Search? I learned of many unfamiliar alternatives in the replies. This result makes me wonder if #GoogleTrends is not adequately capturing interest in the #Fediverse because of the selection bias against using it?
@profcarroll I started using Duck Duck Go in 2010! I'd be interested to read more about the alternatives people mentioned to you.
@wendyg @profcarroll Yes! DuckDuck go doesn't track you!
@Moocher @wendyg @profcarroll
I'm not so sure I'd trust it.

It may have changed by now, but they don't seem to be honest with us.
DuckDuckGo browser allows Microsoft trackers due to search agreement

The privacy-focused DuckDuckGo browser purposely allows Microsoft trackers on third-party sites due to an agreement in their syndicated search content contract between the two companies.

@thejim @Moocher @profcarroll Thanks for the link. I had noticed that a lot of news stories link to MSN rather than the original sites, which adds work for me finding the original links.
@thejim @wendyg @profcarroll
Weaknesses re Microsoft noted. I don't use the two cited, but always decline all except essential functional cookies when given the opportunity. It's all a bit too much like hard work!
