I’m so nervous for the Chinese people, just holding my breath that CCP won’t pull a internet block. #powertothepeople
@denisewu I'm terrified for the Chinese protesters. I admire their courage more than I can describe. I remember being excited for them in 1989. Communist dictatorships in Europe were falling and people were getting their freedom. I was captivated by the protests in China and thought the government would respond peacefully, but they committed crimes against humanity on their own citizens. I am so scared they will do this again.
@BiddyinTO Xi knows all eyes on China protest. If he choose to be heavy handed it’ll leave the Western business with more motivation to divest manufacturing jobs. Plus Xi has locked himself in a box that lockdown may be the only solution due to zero immunity that’s only going to make people resent Xi even more.

@denisewu I'm still very worried about the Chinese people. Xi is a mad man and the CCP does not care about life. They will kill to maintain order and control and they won't tolerate dissent for very long. I doubt they'll be a brazen as they were in Tiananmen, but it won't end well for some people.

The protesters are brave and I admire them so much. Much like the Iranian women protesting.

@BiddyinTO I’m just waiting to see if internet blackouts happens. I’ve seen tanks video rolling in.
@denisewu I'm in the office so haven't had a chance to check my phone or Mastadon today, but I heard tanks and thousands of cops were rolling into many areas. It's ominous. They have to get the foreign reporters away. I'm nervous for the people. All they want is a bit of freedom and a better life.
@BiddyinTO they’re pulling a Putin right now, with selective cracking down from Mobile data, good thing there is no leader for this protest otherwise it be another Navalny. But I do hold out hope, these protester are quite savvy by calling out some easy facts that there is no CIA because they’re can’t even contract outside world, or World Cup no one wearing mask. So I think they might have a shot at rebutting police with obvious facts.
@denisewu That's it. I don't believe they are demanding a radical change in the governance of their country. Many see seem fine to accept the CCP as the sole rukong party, as long as they live relatively comfortable and safe lives and can enjoy limited personal freedom. The Zero-Covid is horrible and Xi is taking things way too far. He should not have been reinstated for a third term. He'll never leave now. At least not of his own accord.
@BiddyinTO some protesters was flat out rejecting “we don’t want Xi for life and want democracy”. I’m surprise Chinese nationalists isn’t popping up even suppress.
@denisewu Yes, I've heard some saying that and they are right. Xi is too extreme. Single party rule is bad, but the Chinese people seemed to largely accept it if their freedoms aren't reduced and they have the ability to prosper. They don't like it when the govt gets too extreme and too involved with their lives and that's what Xi does.
@BiddyinTO zero Covid is now more like zero immunity all caused by one man they didn’t choose to elect.
@BiddyinTO @denisewu They are actually calling for Xi's resignation but I do think that if he changed their no tolerance policy they will back off.
@inamood @BiddyinTO I think it’s funny especially how much state propaganda pushed for Xi as their savior. Now people are all directing their anger towards Xi.
@denisewu @BiddyinTO Yesterday I read that Twitter was inundated with porn from China trying to make Twitter hard for the Chinese to use and gather information from to protest.
