On this day in 1955, the Washington Post reported that Chester Travelstead, Dean of the University of South Carolina’s College of Education, was fired because he spoke out against segregation in public schools. This was, of course, more than a year after the Supteme Court ruled in Brown v. Board of Education that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. #todayinhistory
