We can’t minimize Trump’s dinner with antisemite and holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and the refusal of leading Republicans to speak out against this. While none of this is surprising, it’s the latest sign that if Trump is not held criminally accountable and ends up as the GOP candidate, he will drive America to the bottom and seek vengeance against all enemies, real and imagined. Silence is complicity.

even then, does a criminal conviction actually preclude being POTUS? If State's can't require simple tax disclosure that seems likewise unlikely

When the moral compass disappears—or in some cases never existed—and the only desire of the party collective is power for the sake of power and insatiable greed, values, ethics and basic humanity disappear. That’s what’s happened to what was once the Republican Party, which now stands for nothing but the aforementioned. When facts cease to matter, when science is rejected and “alternative facts” are considered a real thing, this is what you get.

@StevenBeschloss I’ve never believed that Trump would be held accountable for any of his crimes. Establishment looks after their own. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was POTUS again in 2024. Similarly here in the UK, the Tories remain in power and indeed the opposition parties are all Tories too. No chance of anything ever changing. The rich and powerful will continue to maintain the status quo. Humanity is doomed.

@StevenBeschloss oh, they said about it. When Hillary had her “deplorables” speech they shrieked with indignation. When Biden called them “semi-fascists “ they clutched their pearls. Our media (including PBS) refused to broadcast Biden’s speeches about democracy in danger. They took a side, just not ours.

@StevenBeschloss after awhile we need to move on from this is the latest sign, the last straw, or if this happens we'll be in a constitutional crisis, or the world will cease etc etc. We should already know what he is, and matter of fact, we knew from the beginning what he stood for and what he was. We should just refer to him as what he is and none of it is surprising. Remember, he could shoot someone and not lose a vote. So how far at the bottom were we then?
