Perhaps at some point I'll write a thread on my deep concerns about our reliance on Google Scholar.

For now, though, why on earth does Google Scholar not let you sort your search results?

You have basically one choice: to see them in "relevance" order—and we're not even told the secret formula used to determine relevance.

You can also sort by date—for papers from the past year only.

It's really crazy that a mature tool supposedly designed to serve the community would be severely limited.

@ct_bergstrom Google Scholar lets me sort an author's list by year or citation count.

My primary concern with Google Scholar is that the citation counts are bonkers.

What is your opinion of https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/ https://dl.acm.org and https://orcid.org/?

IEEE Xplore

#IEEEExplore and the #ACM Digital Library are extremely useful to me. Orcid less so. I agree the citation counts are bonkers. There are no doubt a plethora of reasons why this is so, but I believe it is a common problem in many archives. Working in industry and government labs, I didn’t have to worry too much about citations to my own work. I know the situation is much different in academia.
