@natureadvocacy Those independent news outlets are a great source of climate news!
For those people who want to know what they can do about #climatecrisis there is a great FREE app called ‘Earth Hero’. It was co-founded by @ClimateHuman. Do check it out!
Download the app here:

The app has *at least* Facebook and Google trackers, tracks your exact location, and your Google Ad_ID,. The permission com.google.finsky.permission.BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE is required by Firebase, a Google analytics tool. It appears Google adds Firebase for developers whether or not they need to spy on users. (It can be removed via an addition to the manifest.xml.)

Sometimes tracking can be seen as invasive. The objective of this app is to help people take care for our communities and planet. It’s really important to remember that everything going forward will not matter if society doesn’t take the necessary actions to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
The Earth Hero app should be the least of your worries.

There are incidents in which this kind of tracking information has been used to identify and target environmental activists, purchased from data wholesalers such as Google.
Tracking is invasive. Not just 'seen as'; it is, by definition. Each person decides their comfort point, but that does not change its nature. For me, if not essential to my personal safety for the app to know where I am located within 10 km, it MUST NOT ask for my precise location.
