Mastodon DM warning: Every single person you dm on a different site, has a different admin that can read your dms. There is no encryption to my knowledge in DMS. Just don't use the DMS.

@Zuda The real purpose of DMs on Mastodon is to have a one-on-one conversation with someone without having it appear on the public timelines. Frankly it's no different than Twitter. It's not Private - it's just not Public.

I could set this reply for you only, but in this case I want other people to see it too.

@leo you run a great instance, I'm not in anyway questioning your instance. I'm simply saying everyone has a different admin and they all have the abilities to read messages.
@Zuda Or don't DM things you'd be ashamed for people to see.
@Zuda so far I’ve only dm’d the fella running our instance; will likely keep it that way, thanks for the reminder!
@Zuda On second thought I realized there may be info (email addresses ect) that you may not other want people to see. It's not all about people tweeting bad stuff so yea you are right and I shouldn't have shot my mouth off before thinking.
