I started composing on #Noteflight 6 or 7 years ago because I wanted to familiarize myself with #notation. I still can't really read music very readily, although if I have a violin in hand I can slowly work out what a piece written in treble clef sounds like, and ditto for cello and bass clef. I stuck with Noteflight because of the ability to synthesize my scores. Here is one of the first multiple-part scores I wrote: https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/84ef186d8b8eff6d98ff3e139aaec11263754fe0

Notation is certainly useful -- I couldn't do what I do without it -- but it's important to remember that notation isn't music. Or as Erroll Garner put it, "No one can hear you read."
@mcmullin ah, but ppl can hear you failing to read
