Sometimes, the intransigent insanity of Brexit just stops you in your tracks.
How much is this madness going to end up costing us all?
Sorry. To be clear. This is a photo from today’s Times. Fuller article here…
Yet the butcher in our local high street closed down last month. Maybe one or other business model is wrong. I think I know which one!
@13sarahmurphy I can't close my mouth...
@13sarahmurphy & those costs will filter through to the customer, absolutely insane
@13sarahmurphy It's nuts, and both Sunak/Starmer chuntering on about reducing our dependence on immigration as though that's the end of the matter and will solve everything. I assume the business couldn't find 400 local people to train up as butchers, they're not going down this route for the fun of it (!)

@13sarahmurphy

Also, massive staff shortages in social care, NHS, land picking, factory work and building etc.

Tbh, I’m surprised people can still afford to buy meat (and afford to cook it) in the UK. 😣

@itsallprettybad @13sarahmurphy FB tagged this as false news when I posted it there. I even posted a link to a Business Insider article from 2020 stating the same, go figure.
@13sarahmurphy I assume the "exodus of staff" were European workers that left? Perhaps, now we can make our own laws, we can insist that anyone who says "Got Brexit done" with pride, should automatically become a butcher in Hull for the next twelve months
@13sarahmurphy
Fruit and veg are similarly placed and left to rot. As a vegan I'd rather turkeys were not killed, that aside, the whole brexit debacle has sunk the farming industry (along with most other UK industries). The ERG have far too much say in what happens in the UK. Their malign influence needs to be ended for good. They are even trying to take over the National Trust with their sponsored group 'Restore Trust'. A #GeneralElecton is badly needed to rid us of this far right plague.
@Melinda @13sarahmurphy I don’t believe a GE will change much. Our political system needs a massive overhaul.

@13sarahmurphy

Why do businesses spend a hundred times more to fight doing the right thing than it would cost to do the right thing? 🤷‍♂️

@13sarahmurphy seems majority now realising the damage this has done…
@13sarahmurphy
It’s going to cost generations to come too

@13sarahmurphy Please support “We a call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry into the impact of Brexit” 🙏

Petition: We call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry into the impact of Brexit

The benefits that were promised if the UK exited the European Union have not been delivered, so we call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry to assess the impact that Brexit has had on this country and its citizens.
