1. Recommend @Vivaldi to your friends. Help them install and setup. Show them the features you think they would most like.
2. Follow @Vivaldi here and on other social networks you frequent.
3. Boost articles by @Vivaldi which have a broader appeal here and on other social networks.
4. Invite your friends to join Vivaldi Social.

Have a great weekend!

@governa @jon when it was #Opera at the time, I had no issue recommending it and installing it on my friends' computers, but as for @Vivaldi, it is not built for the average user: you really need to be a power-user to make use of it, so I find it harder to recommend to non-tech users.

@fretman92 @governa @Vivaldi

Hmm. Interesting that you say that. I have actually introduced Vivaldi to many people that I would not consider to be particularly technical.

The point with Vivaldi is that it can be as simple or as advanced as you like. During install you can make a choice. This is where you can help your friends get going. Select the simple setup. Help them add some speed dials. Show them useful features like zoom, etc. Anyways, thank you for trying.

@jon @fretman92 @Vivaldi That's right, I'm in 'advanced mode' myself but my wife runs it on the basic mode. It's quite flexible.
@governa oh neat I did not know / forgot about this basic mode. I'll try it out at some point
@governa @jon @fretman92 @Vivaldi Yeah, my mother - who's quite functionally and cognitively impaired by her Parkinson's - uses the basic mode and I'm actually getting fewer "omg everything's gone" phone calls from her than when she was using Edge.

@kjhank @governa @fretman92 @Vivaldi

I found this old article about Opera from 2003, when I was there and Opera was still all about the user. It makes just that point.

Now Vivaldi has replaced Opera in this way. We try to have the flexibility that anyone can use Vivaldi, but to make the most of it, you really need to learn a trick or two.

Opera: Your mother should know

The People's Browser?

The Register
@jon @governa @fretman92 @Vivaldi Wow, 2003. 7.x. Probably around the time I started using the red O. Got it on a CD attached to some magazine. Good times.
@jon @Vivaldi I got harassed by a Vivaldi social user my first day on Mastodon. So no thanks.
@koree harassed in which way? (I'm just asking out of curiosity)
@RiveDroite I said something “fuck trump”. I got tone policed by a dude. I blocked him. He logged into his Vivaldi account, followed me, and then told me how wrong I was for blocking him. That’s some stalker bullshit and I’m not here for it.
@koree oh yikes... I fully agree with you that it's not acceptable.
@RiveDroite the only reason I haven’t blocked Vivaldi.net from my instance in its entirety is because at the time, I was new enough that I wasn’t sure how and I just haven’t gone back to do so.
@koree most people on here are great but as always there are going to be some bad apples.
@koree @RiveDroite Ah, sorry to hear that but why use "f" word anyway? I mean you can just politely indicate trump.
I'm not an American civilian, so I might have wrong ideas about what's going to there.
@cuddle @RiveDroite because I’m an adult and a fascist deserves “fuck”
@koree @RiveDroite Then you deserve whatever probably. Didn't find your answer any relevant tbh.
@koree @cuddle @RiveDroite Ohh poor soul. You provoke people then you play the victim. The Trump derangement syndrome is strong in you.
@jon @Vivaldi Sorry but no. I will not recommend an closed source and proprietary software to any of my linux, or open-source friends, until they open the browser.

@jon @Vivaldi Started at work. At least colleages in my office room and half the people on my floor use it. Feature ranking:
a) allow pop-ups to be opened as a tab (crm system opens popup windows for every click you do)
b) stacks with duo-lines
c) tab tiling
d) vertical tabs
e) tab scrolling

one of my colleages got angry last week "when it is so easy to build a browser like that, why do all the others not have all these features"

thanks a lot for all this! and for making it look so easy

@Gschloessl @Vivaldi

Thank you.

We all have our favorite features. Finding those that are the most useful for your friends and co-workers is the trick really. Then help them find more stuff that can make the browser more useful for them.

The other browsers have a different philosophy to us. They tend to use user tracking to decide on features. IMHO that is wrong in very many different ways. When you remove any feature that is not used by most users, you end up with a very limited product.

@jon @Vivaldi Here’s a thing, Jon. When I log in at social.vivaldi.net, it tells me my username is (a)rhodri(a)vivaldi.net. When I log in via an app (Mastodon, Metatext) it tells me it’s (a)rhodri(a)social.vivaldi.net. Which is it? And if I’m telling people it’s (a)rhodri(a)vivaldi.net on Twitter, might tools such as fedifinder not work properly?

(Sorry for all the (a) nonsense, the @ symbol caused the toot to look insane.)

@rhodri @Vivaldi

As far as I know, either should work fine.

@jon @rhodri @Vivaldi I can confirm that both formats link to the same account.

I've shared both in my (now locked) T*****r bio, in order for my followers to find me here, via automated migration routines.

@jon @Vivaldi Nice work guys - been using Vivaldi for a couple of years now! Consider this boosted...
@jon @Vivaldi yes yess I always keep showing off Vivaldi 's cool features to my friends (the screen split and Instagram being my favourite)

@sidneelkanth @Vivaldi

Thank you. I hope your friends like Vivaldi as well!

@jon @Vivaldi Re my recent post praying for an iOS version of Vivaldi I have to mention that due to an IMEI stuff up here in Indonesia my iPhone was blocked. As a result I had to swap to an Android device we had for the business here so, at last, for the first time, I have a mobile version of Vivaldi synced to my macOS version which is now my default browser.
Anyhow, I will continue to promote this excellent product as always.

With thanks,
Rod

@Annerod @Vivaldi

Thanks. Hopefully the iOS version of Vivaldi will not take too long either. It is getting closer.

@jon @Vivaldi I think some of the privacy intrusion features might be needed, like telemetry. It should report crashes and performance issues automatically. Users should not have to report issues manually.

@arcsnim @Vivaldi

There is a difference between reporting crashes and profiling users. Sadly far too many are doing the latter.

At Vivaldi we keep this to a minimum. We do not want to know what users are browsing or even how they are using the browser. We trust users to tell us what they want and need.
