We're considering starting to use a (GUI) tool to help us create datawarehouse and datamarts etc. I'm still very much in the "but I just want to write SQL"-camp. How do ya'll stand in this, #sqlfamily ?
@GeekingTheThing eh, after having spent my share of time making ETL packages in SSIS - I am not fussed bout GUI tools. They can be fine. I'm OK with SQL as well - I suppose it depends on the competency in the company/departement whatr would be best suited.
@SQLClause Yeah, we're probably going to use SSIS, cause my manager finds it easier to see how the data "flows". And some extra tools might be cool too, but... it feels like a pain in the butt to troubleshoot and to automate.
@GeekingTheThing Hah, yeah - troubleshooting can be a pain. Automating isn’t too bad though.

@SQLClause @GeekingTheThing since they improved the logging and the SSIS Catalog a couple of years ago, I'm now a big fan of SSIS - particularly for heterogenous environments.

If you're still running from .dtsx files and have to design custom logging, you have my sympathy.

@dhmacher @SQLClause Do you have any opinion on TimeXtender? Cause that's what we're looking at at the moment.
@GeekingTheThing @dhmacher @SQLClause i wasn’t asked. But I have opinions.
@bweissman whaaat? Colour me surprised... @GeekingTheThing @dhmacher
@bweissman @GeekingTheThing @dhmacher sorry, do go ahead with your opinions. Your opinions are valued :)
@SQLClause @bweissman @dhmacher I got the opinions over DM. We're sneaky like that!
@GeekingTheThing @bweissman @dhmacher I just waffle on about anything really...
@SQLClause @bweissman @dhmacher Does that mean I get waffles when I talk to you? NOM!
@dhmacher @GeekingTheThing @bweissman Belgian or Norwegian waffles, but not stroop waffel
