Dating app musings: The differences between Mastodon and Bird Site remind me the differences between Scruff and Grindr. Scruff is a kinder place administered by better people. Grindr, for reasons I don't understand, is far more popular. So if I actually want to have interactions I am forced to go onto the inferior network, and I hate it. #gayman #biman #queer #dating #scruff #grindr
@Mascqueerade I think that's an excellent analogy. Scruff I think turns off twinks and it has more a niche than Grindr because of that and it was later to market. Similarly Mastodon is harder to sign up because you have to find an instance first, and it was later to market.

@Mascqueerade

Scruff was very different a little over a decade ago. It seemed more "real" men were using it, & then (at least in my experience) it got over-run by more "body-centric" men, who didn't want to chat.

GrindR is more popular because it was never about chatting. It's the "quick fix"...and since we have a whole generation that isn't *talking* to each other, it suits. I know that's why it's *never* been effective for me (but people on it would say, "no, you're just not hot enough.").
