@lightweight exactly the reason I moved from github to sourcehut + selfhosted cgit.
I dont want this to happen on githubs terms.
@lightweight if you're looking for software.
gitea is hands down the best choice if you are familar with gitlab.
@lightweight
yeah...
I have a bit of concern to. (i dont particularly agree with drew on his takes)
but it seems as the whole is open, so theres oppertunity to fork if needed.
Also sucks that the debian packages kinda stink.
@djsumdog @lightweight @theorytoe Drew is an acquired taste, but I would argue he is a hugely valuable presence in FOSS. He reminds me of RMS in his moral absolutism about free software, but without the really problematic behaviors and statements of RMS.
As much as I *don't* agree with Drew a lot of the time, I feel people holding his opinions strongly is valuable to the community and it keeps the Overton window of FOSS from sliding too far.
but without the really problematic behaviors and statements of RMS.
eh, he’s still a child. I know it was 10 years ago, but he did hostile takeover an IRC chatroom:
https://www.omnimaga.org/news/omnomirc-moved-to-new-server/
and just two years ago back on my old instance we had several DMs where he ended up blocking me because I had reposed a video by Candice Owens and wouldn’t denounce it. .. I dunno, dude rubs me the wrong way and is arrogant.
@djsumdog @lightweight @ocdtrekkie
Interesting. Ill take note of that.
This drastically changes my perceptions of him.
@ocdtrekkie @djsumdog @lightweight
Its not that its a grudge, its an example of past behavior. It wouldnt be to far from the truth to say that its a reason to be wary. Sure people change, but past actions still stain one's reputation and give insight on to what they might do in the future.
as for stallman, the accusations thrown on him were 99% corpos trying to get rid of his presence in the foss community. Sure, what he has "claimed[1]" is weird, but they are words, not actions.
[1]: With a suprising lack of evidence coming from the accusers. Makes you think huh?
@theorytoe @djsumdog @lightweight My own behavior has changed drastically in the past 11 years. I would say it's not a useful signal at that point.
I won't go deeper into RMS tonight, but I think it's deeply problematic the FSF allows him to remain involved for numerous reasons.
