I want to update my drivers.
NVidia: "You must first download the EXPERIENCE app".
Can't I just get the drivers? "No"
Ok, I have the 1GB app, now can I get the drivers?
"No, you must create an account on the EXPERIENCE".
Fine. What now?
"Now you must setup 2FA".
Ok fine, can I have the drivers now?
"No. Would you like to come to our conference?".
No! I want to update my graphics card driver.
"Ok, here is your download... 700MB".
Fine am I done now? "No, it failed to install. "
@tonybaloney for what it’s worth, I never had that problem. Search for “RTX driver”, land on the NVIDIA page, select card, download driver, in the installation flow deselect GeForce Experience and I am good to go. Did that flow change in the past few weeks?

@den @tonybaloney The problem is having to be proactive in tracking updates.

I bitched about that the other week, like, why do I need to MFA to install a driver, just auto-install without telling me damnit

@slace @tonybaloney I am the last person to defend user-hostile practices in software, but I’ve never seen this with NVIDIA drivers. How are you getting them?

Here is where I get mine: https://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx

Download the latest official NVIDIA drivers

@den @tonybaloney I set this PC up a long time ago and installed GeForce Experience as that seemed to be the recommended way to do driver management.

It notifies me when I have a new driver ready to install, but randomly it'll sign me out and then I have to MFA back in.

Yes, I could ditch it, but then I'd have to be proactive in checking for driver updates.

@slace @tonybaloney I mean, realistically, you don’t need new video drivers frequently short of some breaking issues that you notice with games/graphics-intensive apps.
I always recommend folks install the vanilla driver and look for the new one whenever they see specific issues occurring.
Personal two cents.

@tonybaloney you don't need to update your drivers, you obviously need to go figure out how to register a spacecraft instead.

Oh wait

@tonybaloney or you could use Linux. 2023 will be the year of the Linux desktop!
@pthane lol. I won’t have any issues with Nvidia drivers on Linux 👍🏻 I’m playing Forza Horizon 5 anyway so it’s irrelevant because it wouldn’t even run in the first place. My main workstation is a Mac, I use the Windows machine for some specific dev stuff and gaming
