i occasionally open up the birdsite so i can reply to DMs from friends who aren't on here, but wow you don't realise how much of a hammer swinging moshpit it is till you've been off it for a while
@paperghost right? My wife still sends me stuff from over there, and it's the ultimate expression of "never read the comments"
@paperghost I'm finding it increasingly difficult to justify keeping my account there. Makes me feel... dirty.
@paperghost had the same experience the couple times I have checked it since I left. Sheesh.
@paperghost I quit using Twttr for a few years. Came back to follow the events/war in Ukraine more closely. I used to worry about it being an echo chamber and so I followed various sorts of accounts. In February I decided I didn't care if it was an echo chamber, as I listen to/read good news sources outside of it. So I reduced the number of accounts I followed from ~450 to ~260. I recently dropped it to about ~160, close to a Dunbar number – and it's actually not too bad at this point. (I've always used the non-algorithmic latest view.)
