NHS England has issues new guidance which says that in young people being trans could be a "phase" and doctors could try stopping them wearing the clothes they choose to wear. You can complain. NHS England proposals put young people in danger

Dr Ruth Pearce
Boost for the morning crowd. This is in effect mandatory conversion therapy.
Gendered Intelligence have written a helpful guide for how to respond to this threat. Say no to de facto conversion therapy. https://genderedintelligence.co.uk/services/publicengagement/interim-service-spec.html

Hi everyone, the response deadline to this is today. If you're based in England, please use the resources above to put in a response. If you're not, boost for visibility.
@stavvers I'm not well enough. I could manage a simple yes/no but not a proper consultation. It's so frustrating.
@ailbhe yeah, it's unfortunate they make these things so inaccessible, but even that helps
@stavvers I filled it in badly so here's hoping
@stavvers one of my answers was "this bit seems really transphobic"
@stavvers Thanks for the reminder on this - just finished my repsonse.
Hello lunchtimers, please read the above if you can, and boost it and take the action if you're in England!!!!
(If you're fortunate enough to not be in England, give it a boost so it reaches the unlucky ones)
giving this one more bump because it was probably not my best idea to post it at 1am - read, boost, do the action if you live in the rainiest, fascistiest bit of rainy fascist island
@stavvers my brain hurts. I can't read it properly. But it sounds really important. What's the deadline?
@stavvers Is there a way we can sign a petition or write to our MPs about this? Also, just like the online saftey act (wherein the gov dont seem to know VPNs exist), I have *no* idea how tf theyre going to be able to enforce this. I know trans people who wear their real clothing under a layer of outer clothing until they go outside and then just... take the outer layer off. (Its still awful though.)
@SkellySoft In the linked article, there's an action you can take - because this is an NHS England decision, it's best to take it directly to them

@stavvers
I echo every sentiment
As a cis parent of a trans son, those last few paragraphs hit home. He opted to wait until he could access adult services & avoid the harm.

Social transition & willingness to learn were literal lifesavers.

At 17, his GP referred him & he's now in waiting list limbo. We'll likely go private for the same reason I went private when my gall bladder needed yeeting & had already caused sepsis - staying alive is a choice we're actively making.

@stavvers @gwylanarchaidd It’s just really rubbing it in considering getting into a GIC in the first place takes like five years

@stavvers I ... what?

If it's a phase, how will they get through it if they don't wear the clothes?

Are wearing the clothes harming them? No? Then they don't need a medical intervention to stop them doing it!

I mean, it's probably not a phase. That's insulting and harmful by itself. But even if it was, this makes no sense...

@fishidwardrobe I couldn't agree more. And moreover, it's not a doctor's role to tell a young person what they should wear or not, that's absolutely unprecedented!
@stavvers I imagine the doctors aren't terribly impressed by this either.
@stavvers Am I allowed to complain if I’m not in the UK?
@tomatoBhutan no, but please share for visibility!
@stavvers I have several cis women friends who are jeans & t shirt people & only extremely rarely wear makeup.
Why is the NHS bringing the social construct of gendered clothing into this?
Next it will be construct called religion defining healthcare.
Oh yeah, just remembered the NHS is slowly being bought by Americans.
I wonder if those companies have links to the Heritage Foundation
@stavvers this is literally conversion therapy
