Biggest ever university strike begins in fight over pay, pensions & conditions

Over 70,000 staff at 150 universities across the UK begin three days of strike action over attacks on pay, working conditions and pensions. The strike is the biggest in the history of higher education and UCU is predicting historic turnout on its picket lines.

@kityates cunningly they pay us too little for many to be able to afford to strike πŸ™ƒ a colleague said she wanted to but she literally wouldn't be able to afford her kid's nursery fees if she did.

@kityates Once Upon A Time I knew an academic who went on strike, and then spent months trying to get the university to recognise that he'd actually done so and dock him a days pay.

The attitude was "our academics are grown-ups, they decide for themselves when they do the work, we're not into clock-watching, we don't mind if you chose not to work that particular day".
