In 2007 @[email protected] and I randomly met at a book sale table at the Barnes & Noble in Pittsford, NY and have been together ever since.

This is us at that same table 15 years later.

It turns out if you pose for pictures in a B&N and burst into tears, people will stare

So, Jon’s dad had a great suggestion to celebrate: go back to Barnes & Noble together and then buy a book for the other.

So we set a 15 min timer and set off to find anniversary gifts and then we’d meet back up at “our” table and exchange.

2/

I took it seriously and got Jon Mary Oliver & my favorite children’s book

And Jon, The Troll, got me a book of philosophy by @[email protected] that is famous in our house because we adore Scott but also bc we already have TEN bc I was so excited I preordered 14 accidentally

3/

“I got you a book by your favorite philosopher!”

And I keeled over laughing and reminded him @[email protected] (HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT) is my favorite philosopher. (sorry, other Scott)

And then we both cried a bunch and people stared at us hugging and weeping in a B & N

So without starting to cry again, let me just say I can’t believe how much life I have lived with this wonderful human, how much better a person I am for knowing him, how well he understands me

15 years! We were such babies! How lucky am I to have him on this journey!

@klonick y’all are super cute and I’m happy for your love ❤️
@klonick that's so lovely. Thank you for sharing, Kate.
@klonick nasty brutish and short is soooo good!

The nice lady at Barnes and Noble was like THIS IS SO CUTE

and I have to be honest. She’s not wrong.

@klonick Have a wonderful Thanksgiving 😀🦃
@klonick Agree, it is pretty cute.
@klonick I should have guessed you met at a bookstore. Very you.
God is the Barnes and Noble handle really @[email protected] ? Or is this an Elon verification troll

@klonick Barnes and Noble own/control the domain bn.com which seems really wild to me.

It just seems odd that a book seller has such a rare domain name.

@UkiahSmith it also seems odd to me that a book seller snatched the domain name of a Brazilian forest :)

jokes aside, bookshops were forerunners in e-commerce; short domains were still being picked up in the mid-late 90s (or resold for cheap). I think even in the early 2000s 4-letter .com's were still attainable.

@hisham_hm I just find it hard to believe that the got there early enough to buy it new. Surely they bought it off someone. Though, I have been using bn.com for a very long time. At least since bn released their first eink reader.

🤷‍♂️

That's pretty dang early.

The bn must have been someone else other than Barnes and Noble.

@klonick What was the book that was your ice breaker?
