Hey, any #TangerineDream fans out there? They were instrumental in getting me hooked on #synthesizers at a young age, and I think the more atmospheric/ambient corners of #synthwave owe much to their 70s/80s output.

Recently I started writing a series on my favorite TD tracks, starting with Tangram. More to come soon!

Yarred combines next-gen groove production with classic keyboard playing on analog and digital synthesizers.

Here's the whole series so far:

@yarred Nice, gonna set this aside for later. Love Tangerine Dream ever since Phaedra was featured in that one episode of Black Mirror. What’s your absolute favorite release?
@lifepatterns aaaah, that's like having to pick a favorite child! 😵‍💫
@yarred @lifepatterns I have loved Tangerine Dream since the late 70s when I was in my teens, they really introduced me to electronic music, I have a really soft spot for Ricochet and Tangram also like their more recent releases.
@yarred @driftinginlowercase Can only imagine how absolutely mind blowing it must have been to hear them back then. They still impress today obviously, but so much of what they do has permeated through to all sorts of music so thoroughly that some of the effect is lost.
@yarred always loved TD and always been inspirational for me. One day I'll probably try to do a Tangerine-esque album. I owe so much to them!
Also, their last album is 🔥
@Timecrawler82 My favorite recent TD wasn't actually marketed as such…it's "Synthwaves" by Thorsten Q & Ulrich Schnauss. Absolutely baller album. 🙌

@yarred Ah, going to have to check these out. Huge #tangerineDream fan here. Did a YouTube video recreating the Tangram sequence a while ago.

@yarred @expertsleepers some of my friends that fall on the hipster side of the spectrum malign Tangram, but I love it!
@voiceofunreason @expertsleepers Eh, well…I could pick at Part 2 a bit, and there are a few silly moments in Part 1 (namely that goofy fife and drum bridge)…but that's all more than made up for the bulk of Part 1 which IMO is simply sublime.
@yarred Here is an interview that I did with TD in the 70s that you might enjoy. https://www.neatnetnoise.com/synapse-july-august-1977-page-17-1

@lynner Oh wow, I love reading these old interviews. Thanks for the link!

@yarred TD are a significant influence on my work, along with Klaus Schulze, Node, etc. Just finished a new record (mixed by Chris Vrenna, ex-NIN) that draws a ton of inspiration from Rubycon / Ricochet in terms of timbre and overall presentation. Love the Berlin School sound.

PS Check out Chuck Van Zyl and ['ramp] !

@ianstaer Listening to "Manifold" right now…ooooh yeah, this is right up my alley. 🎶

@yarred thanks for the listen! If you enjoy that, you may do well to tune into Stars End Radio every Saturday from 1AM-6AM EST (10PM-3AM PST) at https://xpn.org #wxpn -- the longest-running ambient/electronic FM-radio program in the US!

I have discovered SO much amazing music through the show.

@yarred one of my favorite movies is Sorcerer (1977) with an amazing soundtrack by TD made even more amazing when you realize they scored the film without seeing any of it. Just a script.
