@admin In light of the conversation about anti-Black racism in the wider fediverse, as illuminated by Black folks including [email protected] and [email protected] others , I'd like to know how kolektiva.social is improving our moderation policies with a view toward active antiracism. I'm new, so I hope you'll make allowances for my ignorance. Are there BIPOC folks on the mod team? What are the processes and policies with regards to challenging racism? How are we making kolektiva.social a space that centers BIPOC experiences and decenters whiteness? How can members help support this process?
Hey so I probably should have realized there is a big server upgrade today so I'm not going to get a response soon! I'm going to refer this to #kolektivamod #kolektiva #kolektivameta and say that I did see us on the evolving list of instances with mods who are POC... but I'm still open to talking about this with folks on here, bc as good as we are comparatively, there's always room to improve.

@gnomic_heresy Thank you for bringing up these questions. I appreciate them and believe the discussions they provoke will be fruitful.

I am aware the current mod team is discussing this. As we work out who/what/how the collective operates we hope to inform about ways to get involved, what assistance is needed and share more of kolektiva on our homepage (that has yet to be developed). All I feel able to speak to at the moment is the people who moderate/admin/develop kolektiva are from across the Americas and we chose the name kolektiva (Esperanto) to encourage a multitude of languages to blossom. I haven't met everyone who moderates.

I, as admin, shy from moderation to allow space for others without the gravity of centralized power dynamics.

However, I am of the persuasion that a diverse makeup helps to set the tone and the one I'm personally after is one that centers anti-racist, multi-racial action. This implicitly and explicitly encourages a de-centering of whiteness towards revolutionary ambitions.

@admin Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I hope the discussion continues and I look forward to hearing from mods when they have a minute to chat about it.
