Just got a notice from our reputation tracking service that they can no longer guarantee takedowns on the birdsite because, well, nobody's around to respond to requests.

This open door for abuse is a long way from getting shut.

@mttaggart Since bird site has been bought by elmo I've been tagged by crypto scammers giveaways thrice. Almost never happened before. If that's not a signal...
@fuomag9 @mttaggart same here, almost every notification I get is spam nowadays
@percy
@fuomag9 @mttaggart
Going to reaffirm this too. Nothing but scam DM requests on the bird site now, same format every time so it's the kind of thing that should be trivially flagable before it hits anyone's DM requests.
@mttaggart Indeed, been hearing more lately about movie pirates using twitter.
@mttaggart Makes it a great site to watch movies now ;)

@mttaggart @hacks4pancakes If they could guarantee takedown on the birdsite before, is because they had bribed birdsite employees; otherwise birdsite employees would have ruled against some of their takedown requests.

Remains to be seen whether the new regime is more corrupt or less, but what you report would be strong evidence that the old regime was very corrupt.

@radehi @hacks4pancakes Easy there. "Guarantee" was never a guarantee of success. I meant solely in terms of their SLA for response.
@mttaggart @hacks4pancakes Will be interesting to see how things shake out.

@mttaggart But I was told Twitter was far better at content moderation than Mastodon!

Apparently no paid people at Twitter can do better than volunteers on Mastodon...

“@NathanMcNulty I’ve spent 20 years contributing to this community, I’m not ‘crapping’ on anyone. But the topics of content moderation are far too difficult and nuanced for a volunteer driven effort.”

Twitter

@nathanmcnulty Wow that sure was a take!

Tell you what, the "pile of Ruby" is pretty funny given the track record of ActiveRecord.

Plus, there's always Pleroma and Elixir :P

@mttaggart I don't mean to make light of this, but from a black humor point of view, this is *hilarious*.
@siderea Laugh or cry, ain't no in between.
@mttaggart In #Germany, a lawyer is already suing #Twitter over exactly that.
The accusation is that Twitter has repeatedly not only released #illegal content, but also left it online & refused to delete it despite the need to do so. An urgent application for an interim injunction was filed, which is to be heard by t. court next Thursday.
