I’m seeing a couple of #Black folks with critiques of mastodon who are saying they hear pushback from other mastodinians. Why is it so hard to just listen?

The best thing I learned from #BlackTwitter was to resist the urge to “defend”. Take a breath, recognize that you are given a chance to learn, and just listen. Don’t even try to “solve” anything or help yet, sit with the discomfort and feel the feelings. I promise having a community that listens is the first prerequisite for helping.

We are not perfect, we mess up all the time. I mess up when it comes to sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism,… but what matters is taking responsibility and growth. Being perfect and never making a mistake is a sham.
@mathcolorstrees Since Mastodon is not an American-dominated network, or at least not to the extent Twitter was, one should not expect a typical American style of discussion here.
