How does the right manage to be so much better at fear mongering than the left when we have actual things to be afraid of and their shit is all make believe
@SoS institutional support. real easy to fearmonger when you literally control the most popular news networks and can jerk off whatever billionaire to go buy an entire social media platform for you.
@Helmic definitely true. Also don’t hurt that they can just lie about stuff whenever they feel like it
@SoS to be right wing is already to be fearful, isn't it? Or at least to exist within the realm of fear. Fear of change, fear of becoming a minority, fear of "the other" getting revenge. Fear of "the other" no longer following The Rules. Fear of missing out because the other stopped following the rules and therefore got ahead.
The left, I think, tends to believe people can be good, convinced, reformed. That if we just find the right argument, the opponent will finally understand
@SoS of course this will not be true for all the right wing nor for all the left wing. And there are unexpected combinations.
@bradbrace based as fuck actually. The whole ideology is rooted in fear, so obviously fear mongering would be effective
@SoS I wonder if this is two different types of fear, psychologically? Like, I'm afraid of fascism (a threat) and mice (not a threat), but they're different - my reaction to mice is stronger and more immediate. Maybe the right triggers the mouse-fear part of the brain? (Not a psychologist; just speculating.)
