Checked into my first amateur radio net in ten years. I felt like I was cheating using my phone but need to get my radio situation set up. I'm reviewing a technician license course just so that I remember all I've forgotten.
@Edenlinnea I didn’t know you were a ham. Or if I did, I’d forgotten.
@bbrannan I am. I got my license but I was at a very bad point in my life. I got a radio but then had !change some things about my life. I'm now at a point I can get back to it.
@Edenlinnea Ah, very good. Well, the better part, not the bad part. LOL
@bbrannan I have an account on AllStar now. I checked into the Puget Sound net. That was by accident. I was just checking out the nodes on AllStar.
@Edenlinnea Do you have my Baofeng guide? If you don’t, you can get it here: http://buddy.brannan.name/eyes-free/
Guides for Eyes-Free Operation

@bbrannan I do have it. I'm just still nervous trying to set everything up. I have not read the whole thing yet. Do I have to install some Windows program? I also hear there are more accessible ones right now. Would you suggest something different? I want to have the best experience I can for less than $200.
@Edenlinnea Well… You don’t have to download anything to program the Baofeng, but as to more accessible radios, unfortunately the GD77 and its variants that could use the alternative OpenGD77 firmware are no longer available. But I understand the TYT TH-UV380 can take an alternative firmware.
@bbrannan I am looking to find someone local to help me and have to definitely call the FCC to fix my license issue.
@Edenlinnea You know about the new licensing fee, right? It now costs $35 to renew your license.
@bbrannan I figurë "è " a fee. Happy 6pay x. Ôanks é cläifyò è exact am_t.
