Tumblr will soon be joining the fediverse.

I've been wishing social networking could be a protocol like email for years, and it's finally coming true.

The legacy networks like FB, Twitter, etc. will still be walled gardens, but eventually the open internet may win, just like the Web won over AOL.

@cousinofjah Tumblr is a fun site, I'm glad to see them still holding their own.

They're at the sweet spot for the fediverse: big enough that it will make waves in the industry, but enough of a scrappy underdog that they were willing to adopt ActivityPub.
