The latest edition of Damon Krukowski's newsletter, Dada Drummer Almanach, is well worth reading. Apparently a lot of people are buying tickets to shows and then not going. Personally, I haven't been to a show since February 2020. I'm not even tempted; I'm like the character in a horror movie who looks down a long tunnel or a staircase into darkness and just says, "Nope." It's a really weird feeling.

Dada Drummer Almanach
@burningambulance It's an interesting piece, all right. Gives a bit of background to Animal Collective's recent announcement that they were cancelling their European tour because they couldn't break even. At the time I assumed that costs were the problem, but it sounds like bands are getting squeezed at the revenue end too.

@burningambulance I'm probably unduly blasé about the risks, but I haven't given a second thought about going to any of the dozen gigs I've gone to this year, four days at Le Guess Who included, and I have tickets for two more next week.

That said, there was a point back in March where buying my own tickets started to seem pointless because every day I'd get another email from someone who'd gone down with Covid and had tickets to offer up for something.
