Yikes! Amazon is on track to lose $10 billion this year on its hardware division, including Alexa devices. Most devices are sold at cost and plans to monetize them have failed in "a colossal failure of imagination."

@Happy_Belmore @conradhackett What peoplr seem to want is Star Trek technology - no downside talk-into-the-air-and-get-an-intelligent-response.

And of course, they want it for free. We live in an Internet 2.0 world, whatever that ever meant.

What they get is an always-on audio feed from their home to who-knows-where. I’m struggling to understand the wisdom of connecting one of these things to a power source and letting it use one’s network.
