Trying to navigate moving internationally with my partner, who has a disability & requires monthly meds that under medicare are ~$40 but out of pocket would be ~$1500. I hadn't thought about how difficult navigating a new health system might be, and I'd also just assumed it would be possible. Now I'm wondering how anyone manages to do it?
@ameliahine hypothetically I went overseas for 6 months and my parents posted my (shelf stable, unrestricted, PBS subsidised) meds. Which might buy you some time to sort out? And yep, some countries are just ruled out for living in.
@nephstar this was something we were wondering! It would potentially solve issue 2. Glad to hear it worked for you & could be replicated!
Issue 1, which is that i can't sign my contract without a visa that can't be approved without private health insurance, but my gf needs to be linked to my health insurance - thereby making us ineligible for the most common insurances, needs some additional problem solving. And maybe a diagram. 🤔
@ameliahine good luck! Is there an interim health insurance just you could get in the short term, or would that risk her being stranded? And if it’s associated with a particular condition, maybe reach out to patient groups to see if other people have solved it?
@nephstar Thanks! These are really useful ideas, I'll see what I can find out about both of them & hopefully get some answers 🤞
