Wondered about where #Artemis1's antenna(s) are?

Wonder no more. There are four equally spaced around the capsule.

Ball Aerospace built the four Phased Array Antenna (PAA). The PAA serves as a primary data and voice communication link for NASA astronauts across all mission phases from launch through flight operations and final capsule recovery.
Here you can see the antennas during the construction and testing of the Orion capsule with the outer coverings off. They are placed at 90° spacing around the capsule to provide coverage at most orientations using their electronically steerable Phased Array Antennas (PAA).
This in contrast to the bulky Apollo solution of four dish antennas in an array to provide high gain communications that required a mechanism to aim it...
Here's some details on how #Artemis1 Orion communicates home using both the NEAR and DEEP Space Networks.

Antennas or antennae?

I agree with this article when speaking of EM antennas.

@coastal8049 Everything would be so much simpler if only everyone used the correct term: aerials. 🙂
@coastal8049 I assume running a phased array uses a lot more power than the classical Apollo solution?
@cavac I have no data to compare.
