I love that Mastodon reminds me to add alt text. I love how easy it is to add content warnings or mark things as sensitive. I also love that posts are called toots. It’s just really nice here.
@dramypsyd questions, am new. what prompts you to follow someone? Why not follow all the people that follow you? I’m not asking g you to follow me, I just want to know why you wouldn’t? I thought maybe this space would be less like middle school but it doesn’t seem to be? You are very active posting and that’s why I wanted to ask you.
@birdblahblah You didn't ask me, but my perspective is I will follow most of the people who follow me, once I have looked briefly at their profile and seen some evidence that they will post things that I want to see. I will not follow people who look like they will post things that I don't want to see or have no interest in engaging with. I'm unlikely to follow back somebody who has "church of the your butt looks nice today" in the first line of their profile.
@musiciankate totally fair in all levels. What in particular is “offensive” , church? Butt? You look nice? Not a snarky question. I was trying to be funny in a feminist way, like we own all the parts of ourselves and we can draw attention to whatever we want because only we dictate what our bodies mean to ourselves, like no boundaries for a glow up, noticing we all have a physical body. But didn’t come across funny?
@birdblahblah That's a good question. I wouldn't call it offensive, and don't have a problem with churches, butts, or saying that people look nice, I just find the particular combination somehow offputting. Maybe in part because the sentence doesn't make much sense to me. It also seems somewhat sexual, and I'm not a big fan of sexual content in my feed.
@musiciankate hmmmm. I can see that. I think that’s a natural assumption, I see that. And thanks . But that’s a bummer. There is more to it, our bodies, than in a sexual way. But you’re right, how it could be taken.
@birdblahblah I’m following slowly, I used to follow everyone who followed me and got overwhelmed by my timeline. I don’t expect anyone to follow me but I try to be helpful. I’ve also had an influx of almost 1k followers in less than a week so it’s been a lot lol
@dramypsyd fair! Just curious, I don’t understand how all that works. Like I always read journast Aaron Rupar, everyday, he never just appeared in my timeline. On the other site. That never made sense unless that was the point, make it wonkier, charge more, algorithm control. This experience so far seems more intimate, smaller void?
