Well, toops (right noun?), here's what I'd never twit on the birdsite. I’m looking for a #choir to join in #Vancouver or the Fraser Valley. Any advice is welcome! Bit of a thread…
I gave up performing opera when my ex & I started living together 3 years after getting married. Some of y’all know why. It’s my greatest regret.
Been testing the voice for a while, & it’s all still there. Have to rebuild some flexibility &c., but my real challenge will be “fit.” #music 1/4
Most people who might have tips probably don’t know me, so… context!
I was a voice major in college then did 6 years in UAlberta’s Opera Workshop as a grad student & 3 years in the Victoria Conservatory’s Opera Studio. My last choir was Da Camera, which aimed for open, resonating, & vibrating voices with blend achieved through matching vowels rather than a “straight” tone.
I have no idea If such a beast even exists in #Vancouver… So, I worry about “fit.” 2/4
I’m a true bass (I’ve sung Osmin & Sarastro), and for choral scenarios have a solid low C before moving into pulse. I’m hoping not to aim for the kind of choir where I switch to falsetto at a B flat for the sake of blend… I wouldn’t describe my top f as reliable just yet, at least not in head voice.
I also have no need to “go pro.” I just want music & performance back in my life. As a single parent who has to be the responsible one, choir means planning childcare… 3/4
So I have caps on how many days per week, which means some groups I’d like to audition for will be out of reach, alas. And there's still a pandemic… (seems like masking during rehearsals is still common? I don't really know the norm now)
In any case, if anyone in the #Vancouver #choir community has comments, I'm all ears! (err, proboscises…) Otherwise I'll be digging around for quite a bit! Thanks all.
