Think of people around the world tonight who need Twitter to get their voices heard, to document human rights abuses and injustices, to get attention, expose war crimes, and more.

All of them could be about to be cut off because the world’s richest man wanted to own the libs.

@mehdihasan Yes, and with a federated, decentralized alternative like Mastodon, they can still have a voice. Funded by the masses on federated servers in hundreds of countries around the globe.
@syrus @mehdihasan Engagement levels on Mastadon are also way better than Twitter
@VickiKyriakakis @syrus @mehdihasan as a newbie here I’ve noticed that too. Twitter used to be a fun communicator but over the last few years became filled with trolls and hate. Here it seems responses are genuine and mostly kind.
@Yickyak @VickiKyriakakis @mehdihasan @syrus YES. Biggest difference I’ve noticed here is that exchanges are always with real people. Half the interactions I get on Twitter are with trolls or bots. Biggest thing missing from Mastodon is just breaking news/local news outlet kind of stuff. I’ve used Twitter for years to find out that kind of stuff and it really needs to get brought over to a Mastodon instance so people can follow.
@andricheli @Yickyak @VickiKyriakakis @mehdihasan @syrus Think it's only a matter of not very much time before all major news orgs host their own servers.
@mehdihasan @Yickyak @ejoftheweb @VickiKyriakakis @syrus that would be great and I’m sure ultimately news outlets would prefer to have more control over their content.
