I put together a decision chart about my own personal usage of content warnings. This is offered solely as a useful heuristic and not at all a mandate about how you should choose to mark your own posts.
Not included in this tree is NSFW because that felt obvious.

@mokadam Mastodon has the ability to set a "Content Warning" on posts that optionally hides/reveals the post's content. This is used frequently to make sensitive/traumatic content optional to view.
The use of the CW is an ongoing, evolving conversation. This chart demonstrates how I choose whether to use one.
