Looking for server recommendations to expand my #homelab . New or used is fine.

  • Budget $500ish
  • Rack mountable, 2U max. Must be half-depth though since I don't have a full depth rack
  • Runs relatively cool. My rack is mounted in a closet with no significant airflow.

It's looking like an #intelnuc might be my best/only option but curious if there are some other options out there!

@deliverance my suggestion would be check your local marketplace for second hand enterprise gear. Something in the Dell Rx30 series is 2016 which isn’t incredibly old and supports up to intel Xeon v4 cpus so you can get quiet some power out of them and they aren’t basically space heaters. Would recommend going Dell of HP due to HP’s proprietary bullshit. And atleast in the Dutch market you can find something like an R530(my server) with 2 CPU’s and 64GB of RAM for something like 300 euros. Which for the power it provides is a steal.
