Many men wrongly believe that women's standards mean wanting someone tall, muscular, and wealthy, when in reality what we want is someone who is loyal and reliable, who is affectionate and mature, who is half agony, half hope, and who is Captain Wentworth from the novel Persuasion (1817)
@Ciaraioch As played by Ciaran Hinds
@Ciaraioch (needs more bisexual energy, tbh)
@Ciaraioch But definitely not Captain Wentworth from the recent film Persuasion.
@Ciaraioch @safiemf oh god, that was awful.
@AnnPooley @safiemf Couldn't even watch it, the trailers were enough
@Ciaraioch @AnnPooley I loved Captain Wentworth in the book, but the film has ruined him for me. You start rooting for the guy she's not supposed to end up with, Elliot, because in the film, he's far more likable.
@safiemf @Ciaraioch tbf to the actor playing Wentworth, his miscasting was only one out of 14 million things wrong with that particular adaptation. An incredible accomplishment to take the almost flawless writing of Jane Austen and turn it into two hours of non-stop howlers and clangers
@Ciaraioch In fairness, though, these are the desires of mature women. Just as het boys desire all of the prototypical female physical characteristics pop culture elevates, so, too, do het girls desire the "tall, muscular, and wealthy" man. It is only as we mature and our values change that we can appreciate and desire kindness, loyalty, and maturity in others.
@Ciaraioch I mean some of us would prefer Jane Austen herself but I take your meaning
@Ciaraioch Captain Wentworth is much underrated
@Ciaraioch men actually want the same x
@Ciaraioch A Labrador- neutered obv - but with the heart of the little train that could ( if his wife lets him)
@Ciaraioch I'm well-versed in the agony part - years of experience in the field!
