With the Twitter reinstatement of the former US President who attempted to incite a fascist coup after losing an election, now would _really_ be a good time to stop cross-posting your Twitter RTs here.

If you feel that cross-posting is the only way to maintain a presence here, please consider limiting it to original posts without mentions or RTs, to avoid cluttering timelines with Twitter URLs. Thank you kindly for your consideration.

@eloquence Ehm and why? You can easily mute, block or filter out people and retweets. I get vibes if separation and division.

@l3v3n

Pre-reinstatement, the primary reason was clutter and context collapse. Posts often don't make sense without visiting the other site, and a feed that primarily consists of Twitter URLs is not very readable or engaging.

Post-reinstatement, the additional reason is that many more folks will be actively trying to _avoid_ Twitter because the site's CEO has decided on the basis of a poll among his followers that allowing a fascist to spew his hateful garbage is Just Fine.

@eloquence get it. I just have another base of thinking. Didn't join Mastodon to avoid twitter posts or people and topics. Just like decentralized social Media which seems to gain track as a free platform.

@l3v3n

And it'll gain more track if people see it as its own thing rather than just copying content over automatically. :-)

The context collapse goes both ways, BTW -- when someone just cross-posts their stuff, I never know if they will actually even notice if I reply here, or if I'm effectively interacting with a shadow presence.
