Hey new folks! Apropos of nothing did you know that you can create filters if there are words, phrases and names you don’t want on your timeline here?
Also one of the nicer norms here is to use a CW if you are putting politics in people’s feeds. We don’t have to replicate that place here. We can do better.

@nancybaym it's tricky though. what is political? a few years ago i posted about a SXSW proposal by two Black feminists and I which related to systemic oppression and mentioned disinfo in the 2016 election. should that be CW'ed? Opinions differ!

And of course the question of what should be CW'ed as political is itself political. How meta! Which means people see guidance like yours without a CW and don't see the complexities unless they click through on the CW on my post

@jdp23 Agree but in a moment when everyone is suddenly screaming about a past president some things are less nuanced. And they can click through on yours if they choose to as I did.

@nancybaym i agree on not wanting to see posts about that odious person ... but that's not the only topic that falls under "political" guidleline.

an example I just saw @mattblaze post about ... should this post have been CW'ed as political?

@nancybaym Here's the documentation for filtering: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/

Control what you see, for a more comfortable social media experience.

@nancybaym Depends on the app you're using, but in your preferences menu there should be a filters section
