I've only really been a Mastodon guy for less than a year, so I can hardly call myself an oldbie. But my personal opinion about the influx of new members these past couple weeks is that it rocks. Love seeing lots of fresh enthusiasm for the platform, love seeing the thoughtful discussion of its drawbacks and downsides too. Good job, good posts team

I've seen some "eternal september" griping from some long-time users but mostly just enthusiasm and interesting stuff

@tom as an oldbie do you have any opinion on staying on Mastodon.social or moving? Does it matter much? I'm still trying to figure all this out.

@HibaIssa I think it's a good idea to have the goal of eventually ending up somewhere else that feels a bit more tailored to you.

In the past I'd have said that I don't personally see any reason to rush it, take some time and shop around and see where people you follow tend to be posting from.

But now, I dunno, things are changing so fast. So if reliability and moderation on .social degrades in the next wave of new users, it might start feeling more urgent to find another server
