PLEASE BOOST: Within a day of raising awareness about Mastodon's funding, we've moved the needle on Patreon in a big way

Some Comparisons:

* Yesterday, Mastodon was receiving $21,000/month
* Today, it's receiving $28,000/month -- that's an increase of $7,000!
* Yesterday, 4,720 patrons were donating to Mastodon
* Today, 6,968 patrons are donating to Mastodon

Let's continue this work. Donate, and get the word out!

(Oh, and if you can, send your instance some bux too.)

SIDE NOTE: It's also worth noting that yesterday, when I sent my initial message, mastodon.social was straining under the load, so I used my back-up instance to get the word out about donating.

Well, now my back-up instance is straining under the load because my post ended up being spread everywhere -- to the point that I can't even see my notifications!

So I'm back to mastodon.social to get the word out 😆

Because the same concern trolls who were on the other thread are bound to come here:

1. Donating to your local instance is good 👍
2. Donating to your Mastodon helps your local instance if it runs Mastodon since those code updates end up on your instance
3. Yes, other projects exist -- I've already sent out requests for funding for them (just ask @dansup)
4. Yes, Mastodon is FOSS, but there's a cost and donating is a better way to help with it

Also: if for whatever reason you don't like Patreon, you can also donate via Open Collective: https://opencollective.com/mastodon

@atomicpoet
Does this go to your individual instance or mastodon as a whole?
@atomicpoet looks like payments are in $ only, not € 😞
@atomicpoet @dansup what’s the best place to donate? Local instance or mastodon?
@thori @dansup Why not both?
@atomicpoet @thori @dansup Why not both? I’ve looked and looked and am unable to find a way to donate to a local instance.
@NotPOTUS34 Not all servers are set up to accept donations.
If you can work out who your admin is, ask them...
@NotPOTUS34 A fair few servers have a how to donate guide under the about button.
One tip: larger donations less often mean lower fees.
@BenAveling Thanks. That’s a good point abut the fees. I’ve noticed lately that some charities to which I make donations allow the payer to cover the credit card company fee. Example, one enters $50 and the website asks if one will be willing to pay $52.78 or something similar.
