At COP they are debating how to stop climate change. Here is a another machine for cutting GHGs: a mixed use neighbourhood where everything you need is steps from home.
@charlesincities I imagine if the red rooftops were solar panels it would be more self reliant as well. Lots of opportunities with such a design. If we would consider the rooftop just like any other municipal service it could be leased for energy returns, and scale over time. Haven't seen anyone pitch it like that yet
@charlesincities if u can stomach bein in teh center of all that machine. i used to live in nyc can't no more. small cities SUCK at this.
@charlesincities I have endless but interesting discussions about this with friends and colleagues. Zoning needs to change and enable, no force, the 15 min city on new developments. Living in the Westend (and having lived in Vienna) that's my point of reference.

@charlesincities

"mixed use neighbourhood where everything you need is steps from home"

What, like every family member's work and school; the only store with good deals on organic groceries; a large, natural park with woody trails; community centre and health clinic, and a train station to go elsewhere should something still be lacking?

😆

@Kazinator There's something to be said for not making perfect the enemy of good, right? I'm in favour of making communities more walkable and bringing goods and services closer to the people they serve, but also I think we all recognize that's not some all-or-nothing proposition. So no, technically not "everything", I suppose.

Just speaking for myself as an individual. I don't represent #COP (thankfully).

@charlesincities

@Kazinator hey you’re describing many neighbourhoods in Mexico City!
