ZDNET
@psr wow zdnet… I worked at ziff davis when it was being built
@Melangie
Wasn’t ZDnet spawned from PC Magazine?
@psr we were all under one umbrella back then. Ziff Davis owned PC magazines and a bunch of others. So we had all the content. At one point we were trying to become the next America online dedicated to authors. My group was responsible for Computer online. We provided all the articles on CD and sold them to libraries. It was expensive. We also sold CDs of printer on network drivers and called that one support on site…. It was a great company to work for.
@Melangie I was a Computer Science guy that changed majors to InfoTech. (Too ADHD for coding.) And PC Mag was my forever "go to" publication! I swear, I learned more from you guys than I ever did in school!
My work was in reseach. Specifically, Data Acquisition and Process Control. So, my mission was often integration of cutting edge instruments with mainframes, VAX and ultimately to LANS and personal computers. PC Mag helped me fill in many of the gaps my unique computing environment required!
@psr that’s great story. As employees, we could take as many mags as we wanted. Fun Fact: computer shopper had the highest revenue per page in publishing. If I remember correctly it was 100k per page.. and it was one heavy magazine. Robert Ziff treated us well. When he retired, the reigns went to his sons. They in turn sold the company. It was sold in blocks, so magazines went one way, online another.

@Melangie Sounds like you had a great gig! Too bad the kids wrecked it. Did you guys also publish "Reseller News?"

My firm did some "white labeling," purpose and custom built systems and servers. We found most of our sources in Reseller News and Computer Shopper. :)

@psr not one of ours…. The librarians were great. I would work the phones after a release. They were so nice and polite on the phone
