Intentional or not, getting fired by publicly contradicting Elon was a brilliant move.

Under normal circumstances, contradicting the boss in a public forum is a bad idea. BUT THESE ARE NOT NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

Intentional or not, getting fired by publicly contradicting Elon was a brilliant move : Global Nerdy

The whole mess started with this Tweet: This should have been something like “We’re working on Android performance issues, and you should see improvements in the coming weeks/months,” but that’s not Elon’s style. This was a combination of management by shame and a little red meat for his fanboys. I myself have delivered working software […]

Global Nerdy

@AccordionGuy It was actually the best way to get fired .. calmly explaining precisely what the technical situation was.

I'm guessing his future prospects are bright, and anyone who talks to him is going to have a chuckle and skip lightly over the "Why are you looking for a new job?" question.

And is there a wikipedia page for this purge yet? There should be.

@talexb @AccordionGuy We need some urban slang phrase "he was RPC'ed" or "she was "Frohnhoefered" or something :-). And Android developers have no problem getting new jobs AFAICT. This just makes Mr. Frohnhoefer more employable!
@AccordionGuy People who stan for sociopathic billionaires are… weird.
@AccordionGuy Holy crap, Joey -- what a hell of a way to find you here - by being boosted by Neil Gaiman! Great to see you posting here :D
@vegetarianzombie Hey, Brian! Good to see you here as well!

@AccordionGuy I've been making this point since these interactions started. Elmo is scapegoating their work. It's a much better career move to get fired defending that work than let him do that.

Twitter senior and higher engineers are highly regarded in the industry, especially the infra teams. They'll be fine.

@AccordionGuy I would exactly want this guy on my team.
@AccordionGuy Right? You screencap that and put it in your resume.
@AccordionGuy Agreed, and it takes some moxie to take a hit for the team in this way- to go into it knowing you'd get fired. Takes guts.
@AccordionGuy Could it be that Musk wants to purge Twitter’s ranks by issuing the hardcore memo so that he can staff it with right-wing automatons? The ultimatum goes against universal management principles. He must have a cunning master plan in mind. /s
@RNC If not right-wing automatons, at least ones who’ll pledge fealty. He’s basically asking the remainers for a loyalty oath.
@AccordionGuy @RNC and if loyalty takes precedence over ability, bad things can happen. Just look at UK government. Or ask anyone who's worked in a place, however small, where this happens. They might have outward success but they are often not fun to work at. And you *can* have success and fun together.
@AccordionGuy I don't think e-musk knows what free speech is.
@AccordionGuy Sometimes, when you’ve got to go, you’ve to go grand—especially when going against hollow-wealth-narcissism.
@AccordionGuy Reading the developer’s time line; he had tweeted days before that he was going to try not to tweet something that would get himself fired. Can entirely understand why his patience snapped: it would be hard to go to future interviews and be quizzed about a former boss who was so badly informed, so publicly. It’s one of the more toxic elements of SM, some people believe getting fired is appropriate punishment for tweeting out of turn. Musk seems worryingly malleable.
