I'm a scholar, and two of my favourite hobbies are baking cakes & doing jigsaws. I've realised they all draw on the same personality trait. I like to conceive of a project in my mind, then toil away at different bits of it, always with the overall vision in my head, moulding and shaping until the different bits come together to make the whole, then refining and fine-tuning until my vision is realised. Currently working on a grant proposal and that's exactly how it feels.

@rainbowmurray

I'm sure the grant application will be as beautiful as your cake! I like neither baking nor jigsaws, but I read a lot of books on architecture and see some similarity between architecture and academic writing.

@landwehr_c @rainbowmurray who is your favourite architect? Mies van der Rohe & Frank Lloyd Wright for me.

@PG @rainbowmurray

I really like Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright, too. Generally mid-century American architecture. John Lautner. Also fascinated with early brutalism like the Smithsons. #SOSBrutalism was a great show in Frankfurt and nice account on Twitter.

@landwehr_c @rainbowmurray thank you for your recommendations! I am more functionalist gal - there are some beautiful Alfred Loos villas in Prague. Still need to visit Villa Tugendhat in Brno by Mies van der Rohe, so hard to get tickets.
Come to Prague, its architectural paradise not just baroque Disneyland

@PG @rainbowmurray

I'm planning to come to Prague for the ECPR general conference next year and looking forward to your recommendations for exciting architecture to visit!

@landwehr_c @rainbowmurray amazing, if you need a guide, we can have a walk & coffee.
