One of the neat tricks of Darnielle's songwriting is that it asks you to internalise a lot of oblique structures - action movie set-ups, biblical riffs, ongoing character studies and biographical fragments. This makes it easier for the terminally conflicted to access the feelings of in this case a revenge fantasy when it's blasting out all around them because they've already done the work of worrying it through.
