Mastodon thoughts

I like:

- bigger post text limit
- type of people involved here (funny to see so many SCP and wiki and tech types)
- emphasis on hashtags

I dislike:

- how threading displays (didn't even know it was threaded)
- how DM's display (didn't even know it was DM's
- that likes/retweets don't show until you expand a post
- that follows don't load in likes/boosts unless a user is already cached

I feel like there are so many little hiccups with the service being split across servers that it makes it impossible for less tech-savvy types to wade through

but I love that no billionaire can ever bring the whole thing down

decisions, decisions

@socdoneleft decentralization will always be tradeoffs, but if the current situation on twitter, facebook etc is any indication it will be a small price to pay.

My personal advice is, try to be open minded, very little here is designed without reasoning. Maybe try to use it a month and then we can start the talks.
