In the budget this week it was good to hear that UK Government is to “refocus” the Investment Zone programme to a limited number of “growth clusters” and maintain high environmental standards. Thread 🧵
Naturally we need to see the detail, but to have continued with them in their original form would have trashed planning rules – meaning housing and commercial developments could have been incentivised to damage nature with little or no restriction.
We want to thank YOU, our many thousands of supporters for expressing your concerns and keeping the pressure up. The announcement showed that together we can make a difference.
BUT – there's still a long way to go. While the threat of #AttackOnNature is no longer quite as acute as it was a few weeks ago – we CANNOT rest until we see a lot more #ActionForNature from UK Government.
We still need to see the REUL Bill binned. We need to see farmers properly supported for restoring nature in the forthcoming review of the Environment Land Management Scheme.
And we still need to see both the actual targets and the plan for how UK Government is going to deliver on the Environment Act and restore 30% of land for nature by 2030.
Our job is to hold the UK Government to account and to see nature restored. And with your help that’s what we will continue to do. And we won’t stop!
@RSPBEngland top tip - when posting a reply to your own toot set the visibility as "unlisted" so all the toots don't show in the timeline but as still available on the first toot 👍
@RSPBEngland We are behind you all the way! Thank you for everything you’re doing. 🦉

@RSPBEngland seeing is believing, but unfortunately this government will only invest where their sponsors can make money.

Keep up the amazing. It's appreciated by millions.
