“Research suggests that even at significantly reduced capacity, stadiums with 20K+ in attendance were associated with subsequent case spikes in surrounding communities.”

I remember when leaders and NFL bosses gaslit us that games weren’t super spreaders.

Study: NFL games in 2020 led to COVID spikes in communities

A study published Friday determined NFL games played during the 2020 season before a vaccine was available led to spikes in COVID cases.

@luckytran your post is a bit misleading.

“Another study, led by researchers at MIT, used different methodology & suggested that opening stadiums had no impact on community spread.

Authors of the more recently published research were careful to state they could not assess cause & effect because they had not confirmed transmission as directly linked to fan attendance.

The data may also have been influenced by overall public health regulations in each of the observed counties”

@luckytran
Caveat Emptor.
Anyone who listened to people with million on the line if they didn't show up for health advice got what they deserved.
@luckytran I have encountered multiple people who say things to the effect of "your uncle should die from COVID so I can watch the game in person". It is appalling.
@luckytran I wonder if anyone has studied hockey arenas at various levels of play (such as juniors and minors) since these buildings are notorious for poor quality air and ventilation.
@luckytran I also remember when Bret Sutton was mocked for saying a superspreader event happened here in VIC at the MCG
@luckytran The World Cup is going to be a nightmare 🫠
