I just had this terrifying thought. What if I'm not on the cool server?

@grumpygamer

don't worry, you can always make your own cool place and migrate there (folks who followed your old account will automatically follow the new one)

(i know you're joking but still want to get the info out there)

@OliverUv I was just reading the docs, I might spin up my own instance.
@grumpygamer i've seen some guides for admins going around, if you stick around for a few days you'll probably see them pop up in your feed
@grumpygamer the side effect is you'll verify your identity with your DNS without paying for a badge (well, you still need to pay for the domain)
@nyx @grumpygamer That's also a good argument for companies and government agencies too run their own instances: yes, of course you're talking to someone at Verizon, because no one else can get a @[email protected] account.
@grumpygamer @OliverUv My feeling is, it's like running your own email server: entirely feasible, but may or may not be what you want to spend your spare time doing (speaking as someone who ran my own mail server for many years, and now happy to pay someone to do it for me).
