But when I tell neurotypicals that I am neurodivergent they are sceptical?!

Make it make sense.

@rickdove
During school I got called (other than the predictable homophobic slurs)

Spellcheck (self explanatory)
Spacecake (because of tendency to "space out"
Scary Starey (because of weird all or nothing approach to eye contact)
"OOOH Natterjack Toad!" (less a nickname, more a thing that got shouted at me at random because of my tendency to suddenly fixate on and announce random wildlife)

...and yet my diagnosis was met with scepticism by family members.

@TomJuniper I feel this so hard. it is genuinely baffling…

@rickdove The funny part is, it's definitely not just me. I was telling my sister, just look at our grandad: Socially awkward, didn't do small talk, INTENSE special interests, (marine life, mycology, word puzzles) very witty but didn't get "conventional" humour, communicated emotions almost exclusively through classical quotations, stickler for accuracy, had very specific "same foods" etc etc
And she was like "that's not autism, though, that's just what he was like!"

I... Yeah.
