For Twitter folks who are brand new to Mastodon

Few pointers from a veteran of <checks notes> 2 weeks:

1️⃣ BOOST generously: If you see a Toot you like & want others to see it, boost (RT) it. Unlike Twitter, liking it does nothing for visibility

2️⃣ HASHTAGS are important, use liberally. They're the only way to make content discoverable by search

3️⃣ Use alt-text for images/gifs for accessibility

4️⃣ Err towards content warnings - not just for obv triggering content; helps keep feeds uncluttered

@GermHunterMD OK, I see, so the best way to shoe your interest on a post is to RT.? send the star is for what reason?
@JazzLydia it’s just to say “I like your toot”. In Twitter it says that but also makes the Tweet show up on others’ feeds via the algorithm that prioritizes popular tweets. No algorithm here
@GermHunterMD @JazzLydia if you want to 'amplify' a toot and effectively show others that you support it, then boost. I suppose it simply puts that toot back into the top of the timeline, right?
@d @GermHunterMD @JazzLydia More important is that boosting shows it to the people who follow you, who might not be following the original poster.
@GermHunterMD @JazzLydia I found that reTweeting was the only way stuff showed up in my feed. Liking something didn't have it pop up, though it did place it into a category that I could then browse under my own profile.
